Matt’s first experience with the science of Brand Ambassadorship was at VCU during his graduate studies where he was immersed in the basketball program and activated an engagement team at every home game. This was the centerpiece of VCU’s overall marketing efforts.
Soon after graduating he moved to Florida and joined Corporate Sports Marketing Group to do the hardest job in marketing: cold-calling Vice Presidents of national companies to sell advertising (think Boiler Room). CSM represented major brands like MLB, NCAA, NASCAR and even American Idol. He saw people getting fired from his position almost every week but thrived there and credits much of his future success to what he learned talking to virtually every senior Fortune-500 marketing officer in the industry. Realizing that his clients were looking for more than an ad buy (they wanted face-to-face engagement with their customers) was what prompted him to join Marketing Werks, one of the original experiential marketing agencies out of Chicago, and was privileged to be working with some of the best experiential marketing professionals in the business. He left MW in 2018, after almost a decade, and started First Step Marketing. From 2019 to 2022 FSM grew from 4 employees to more than 100, with offices in four states. In that time, FSM executed over 15,000 events from Calif. to Conn. FSM’s team of event professionals has overcome major challenges like the pandemic, severe weather (hurricanes, wild fires, snow storms, extreme heat and flooding) and a record-breaking labor market… and still over-delivered for our clients. “I could not be prouder of the team we build together and the work we’ve accomplished”

Being a brand ambassador started out as a side hustle to fund Gabby through college, but it revealed to her the magic of experiential marketing and set her on the path. Since graduating from USF, she has become one of the most well-known and respected engagement marketers in Central Florida. Gabby has a huge passion for working with people which drives her into the field constantly – every brand ambassador we have ever employed knows her personally.
She loves the challenges that each new marketing campaign brings, along with the opportunity to flex her creative muscle, and over the last 16 years she has had the privilege of working with some of her favorite brands; Live Nation, Naked Juice, Marvel Studios and Frontier. After working with Matt on Verizon’s program, Gabby was thrilled when he launched FSM, and was the first person he called to help get the Frontier Fiber campaign rolling. “What we have accomplished so far is impressive enough, but we are just getting started. I hope we have the opportunity to work with you soon!”

Marty was shaped by the often-harsh realities of growing up on a remote ranch in New Zealand. After graduating from Massey University, he backpacked around the world until finding his calling in London with Rococo International; a pioneer of the Desktop Publishing industry, publishing partner for the British Ministry of Defense, SWIFT, NASA and the European PGA and a regular exhibitor at shows and conferences from Singapore to Genève. Rococo later brought him to Florida as part of the team that replicated the business model in the United States.
Marty met Matt at Corporate Sports Marketing where they represented the best partners in sports marketing; Major League Baseball, March Madness and NASCAR, and created, from scratch, The World Sailfish Championship which by it’s third year was offering over a million dollars in prizemoney as well as orchestrating a complete five-day take-over of the city of Key West. Marty joined FSM in 2020. “Working with First Step Marketing to engage with the millions of new Fiber households that Frontier has opened for sale during and since the Pandemic, has been both one of the most challenging and most rewarding experiences of my career.”
